Just like the wedding, the Father-Daughter and Mother-Son dances should be unique and reflect the couple’s personality. Many times people like to highlight the more formal and loving nature of their relationships and just as many choose to express their fun and humorous sides. Sometimes people choose a song because of the lyrics and sometimes people choose a song with sentimental value such as a lullaby sung by the parent. That being said, even lullaby’s can range from conventional such as “You are my Sunshine,” to the far-fetched such as “Take me out to the Ballgame.” Regardless, these songs reflect you, and so should your dance.
When choosing a song, decide whether you want a fast dance or a slow dance. Remember that song beats can be tricky and just because it sounds fast, doesn’t mean that the dance is. There are many fast dances that can still have an intimate feel, just like there are many slow dances that are actually up-beat. If you already have a song in mind, and it is not on the recommended playlist organized by dance, use an online search to discover what dance it is. Keep in mind that you will be able to dance a couple of different dances to most songs. If you are still unsure what type of dance your song is, bring a couple options to your first lesson and ask your instructor.
